CAN A GIRL WITH ARMPIT HAIR BE ATTRACTIVE?
Inevitably last tuesday when i went to the pool with my friend sarah who also has hairy pits, we cleared the hot tub in no less than 3 seconds—TWO SEPARATE TIMES all because because we put our arms up, revealing a patch of unkempt unshaven hair beneath our arms. it has literally become a social experiment to us—how long does it take for people to become SO uncomfortable by our hair that they leave. It usually starts with them gawking, then trying to “subtly” nudge their friends, then nervous giggling then just leaving. Other ladies get incredibly touchy in the face of awesome empowered sensual hairy ladies. I am by no means passing judgement on women who decide to shave, i am however, drawing attention to the fact that women (and men) become almost fearful of a woman who does not succumb to certain beauty standards. I think that its because they’ve never thought of not shaving. I know i certainly didn’t think about my “choice” (what IS choice judith?) (<—-judith butler reference…i AM a nerd) to start shaving when i was about 12 (ugh, nightmares). It’s just interesting to see how offended people get by something so natural. (yeah yeah i know, what else is new)
also i got a cute strapless dress, fuck the world, hail satan?

You’ll never see the pool or hot tubs cleared when a guy enters with hairy pits.
I’m sorry, but does my pit hair have radioactive toxins or some shit?

I actually can’t believe this. Wow.

I love this, and your dress. Fuck yeah!

Women being comfortable with their bodies intimidates people who adhere to the societal notion that women should be inherently uncomfortable with the way they naturally are. My arm/leg hair is white as snow, so no one can see it when I wear shorts unless they are looking for it or the sun catches the right angle, but DAMN IT, IT’S THERE. My armpit hair is visible within a few feet cos it’s red. (: A few of my friends think that it’s totally disgusting that I don’t shave my legs. One male friend FREAKED OUT at a coffee place because my leg hair touched his leg hair. He’s like, “OH MY GOD, WOMEN ARE SUPPOSED TO SHAVE THEIR LEGS. YOUR LEG HAIR TOUCHED MY LEG HAIR. DO. NOT. DO. THAT. AGAIN.” Uhmm, why should I have to waste hundreds of dollars a year shaving mine if you don’t shave yours? Duhh.
This.
